Allergy Treatment
Allergy Testing
If your physician recommends an allergy test, Austin ENT Clinic performs allergy testing at our Central Austin, South Austin, and Kyle locations. We offer standard IgE skin testing as well as RAST (radioallergosorbent test) testing, which involves drawing blood for analysis.
Allergy Treatment
If the doctor determines that you can benefit from immunotherapy desensitization (allergy shots or drops), you will start a long-term, personalized program designed to decrease your reaction to the inhalants that are causing your allergies. This is done by giving either a series of injections, or of drops placed under the tongue, that contain the specific allergens indicated by your allergy testing.
Allergy shots can be administered in many of our offices. Allergy drops, known as sublingual immunotherapy, are able to be self-administered in the comfort of your own home. The goal is to make our patients symptom-free and medicine-free by blocking the body’s normal allergy reaction to molds, dusts, grasses, pollens, danders, and weeds.
It may be necessary to test for foods at a later date. However, most nasal allergies are due to inhalants (pollen, cat dander, ragweed, etc.), and control of the inhalants usually provides good relief of symptoms.
If you suspect you have an allergy and want to be tested, request an appointment with one of our specialists at Austin ENT Clinic or call our office at 512-381-2850.
